In an effort to enhance opportunities along Highway 59, prevent annexation by Harris County, and safeguard local firefighters' jobs, members of the local chamber of commerce lobbied state legislators to establish the East Montgomery County Improvement District. Established in 1997, EMCID emerged as a pivotal entity committed to catalyzing economic growth, bolstering community development, and fostering educational opportunities across the eastern region of Montgomery County.
With continuous expansion in mind, EMCID helps provide jobs for the community, advertising local businesses on social media and amplifying job postings free of charge. The Improvement District is looking forward to bringing a new 218,000-square-foot conference space to the area which will attract new businesses, restaurants, events, and tourism. Additionally, they have recently purchased a 200-acre property off of 1485 and Caney Creek which will become a dog park, hiking and biking trail, and a variety of other nature amenities.
Spanning across Splendora and New Caney ISD’s, EMCID understands that the youth of today is the future. To support their advancement, the non-profit subsidiary of EMCID, East Montgomery County Scholarship Foundation (EMCSF), provides a $1,600 scholarship or reimbursement to all high school graduates who graduated from a school within the district boundaries. EMCSF also offers 65 $500 merit scholarships per year to students who have at least 48 hours of college hours credited. Since EMCSF’s inception, over $8.8 million dollars worth of scholarships have been awarded to students.
Looking towards the future, EMCID's visionary endeavors continue to chart new horizons, with plans for the state-of-the-art conference space and expansive recreational amenities poised to further elevate the region's appeal and prosperity. With an unwavering commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and community-centric governance, EMCID stands as a testament to the transformative power of collective vision and proactive stewardship in shaping a brighter tomorrow for East Montgomery County. Welcome to a community where progress knows no limits, and possibilities abound—welcome to EMCID.
We are unlike any other economic development organization...in the nation.
